Moroccan Mint Green Tea (loose leaves)

Moroccan Mint Green Tea

Description:

Bold rolled Gunpowder green tea meets refreshing mint in a classic-inspired combination with deep roots in North African tea culture.

The Experience

Moroccan Mint Green Tea brings together the strength of Gunpowder green tea with the bright, cooling character of mint.

The tightly rolled green tea provides a bold, structured foundation, while dried mint leaves and spearmint flavoring create a refreshing aromatic lift. The result is fresh, lively, and medium-bodied, with enough green-tea character to stand confidently beneath the mint.

It is a combination that has become closely associated with Moroccan and wider North African tea culture, where green tea and fresh mint developed into an important tradition of hospitality and daily life.

Tea & Ingredients

Tea Type: Green Tea Blend
Green Tea Style: Gunpowder
Ingredients: Gunpowder green tea, dried mint leaves, and spearmint flavoring
Flavor Profile: Mint • Vegetal Green Tea • Refreshing
Caffeine: Caffeinated
Body: Medium
Classification: Blended

How to Brew

Use 1 heaping teaspoon with The Perfect Measure Spoon per 8 oz / 237 ml of water at 185°F / 85°C.

Mild: 1–2 minutes
Medium: 2–3 minutes
Strong: 3–5 minutes

For your first cup, begin around 2 minutes and adjust to taste. Cooler-than-boiling water helps preserve the fresh character of the green tea while allowing the cherry and rose aromas to emerge.

Experiment with the strength to find your preferred balance between bold Gunpowder tea and refreshing spearmint. Moroccan Mint is also excellent served over ice for a particularly crisp and refreshing cup.

Perfect For

Moroccan Mint is especially suited to mint lovers, Gunpowder green-tea drinkers, after-meal sipping, warm-weather refreshment, iced tea, or anyone interested in exploring tea traditions beyond East Asia. Enjoy it on its own or pair it with dates, figs, nuts, pastries, honeyed desserts, couscous, grilled foods, or richly spiced dishes.

Why Gunpowder Green Tea With Mint?

The pairing of Gunpowder green tea and mint isn't accidental. Gunpowder is a Chinese green-tea style in which the leaves are tightly rolled into small pellet-like shapes. Its relatively bold character gives it enough presence to remain recognizable alongside highly aromatic mint.

Through international tea trade, Chinese green tea became deeply integrated into tea culture across Morocco and other parts of North Africa, where it was combined with mint and traditionally served sweetened.

The result is a fascinating example of how tea traditions evolve: Chinese tea + North African ingredients and hospitality = a tea culture with an identity entirely its own. Tea may begin in one country, but the way people prepare, serve, and share it can transform as it travels.

Tiny Pearls with Centuries of History

Gunpowder green tea gets its English name from the appearance of its tightly rolled leaves, which reminded early Western observers of grains of gunpowder. Its Chinese name, zhū chá—“pearl tea”—offers a rather different image.

Rolling isn't merely decorative. The compact shape helped protect the leaves during storage and transport, contributing to Gunpowder tea's long history as a traded Chinese green tea.

Peach Apricot gives that historic style a modern personality. Peach. Apricot. Summer fruit layered over an old Chinese tea tradition. It's also a reminder that tea culture has never stood still. Tea travels, encounters new tastes and new people, and becomes part of new traditions.

That's how a tea can eventually become something more personal: the tea you always keep in the cupboard, serve to a particular friend, brew every summer—or simply begin to think of as “your tea.”

Moroccan Mint Tea: Tradition vs. This Blend

Traditional Moroccan mint tea is more than simply a flavored green tea. Preparation can involve green tea, fresh mint, hot water, and generous sweetness, with the method of preparing, pouring, and sharing the tea forming an important part of the experience.

Churchill’s Moroccan Mint is a ready-to-brew interpretation of that celebrated pairing, combining Gunpowder green tea with dried mint and spearmint flavoring. It should therefore be understood as inspired by Moroccan mint-tea tradition, rather than as a replacement for the complete traditional preparation and ritual.

For a more traditional-style experience at home, you can use this blend as a starting point and explore serving it with additional fresh mint and sweetness according to your preference.

Moroccan Mint vs. Gunpowder Green Tea

Taste these two teas side by side for an especially useful comparison.

Best for: experiencing Gunpowder paired with cooling mint

Gunpowder Green Tea / Zhu Cha
Vegetal • Full-Bodied • Brisk
Best for: discovering the underlying rolled green-tea style without mint

Start with plain Gunpowder and then taste Moroccan Mint. You'll be able to identify what comes from the tea itself and what the mint contributes to the finished cup.

Explore Tea Across Cultures

Moroccan Mint offers a particularly interesting lesson in how tea travels. Begin with Gunpowder Green Tea (Zhu Cha) to explore the Chinese rolled tea at the heart of the blend. Then taste Moroccan Mint to experience how that tea became part of a very different tea tradition through its pairing with mint.

It is a cup that connects Chinese tea craftsmanship with North African tea culture—a reminder that some of the world's most enduring tea traditions were created when tea crossed borders and found a new home.
