How to Use

Before preparing matcha, briefly rinse or soak the bamboo tines in warm water to soften them.

Sift your matcha into a chawan (matcha bowl), add water at the appropriate temperature, and whisk briskly from the wrist using a quick W- or M-shaped motion rather than stirring in circles. Continue until the matcha is evenly suspended and, when preparing usucha, a fine layer of foam develops across the surface.

Care

Rinse the bamboo whisk with warm water only after use. Do not use a dishwasher and do not leave the chasen soaking in water.

Shake off excess water and allow it to air-dry thoroughly before storing. Use the included tabletop rest to keep the whisk neatly positioned between preparations.

As a natural bamboo utensil, each chasen will have subtle variations in color, grain, and appearance. The fine bamboo tines will also gradually show wear with regular use.
