Peach Apricot Black Tea (loose leaves)

Peach Apricot Black Tea

Description:

Ripe peach and apricot bring juicy stone-fruit sweetness to an orthodox black tea, balanced by gentle briskness and a clean, aromatic finish.

The Experience

If you love fruit-forward black tea but don't want the fruit to overwhelm the tea itself, Peach Apricot is an excellent place to start.

This medium-bodied blend pairs peach and apricot, two closely related stone fruits whose flavors complement each other particularly well. Peach brings a soft, juicy sweetness, while apricot adds a slightly brighter, tangier fruit character. Papaya contributes additional tropical sweetness, while blackberry leaves and colorful calendula and marigold petals complete the blend.

Underneath the fruit is an orthodox black tea base with enough natural briskness to keep the cup balanced. That's important: without that structure, peach and apricot could easily taste simply sweet. Instead, the tea provides a lightly astringent counterpoint, giving the finished cup a cleaner and more refreshing character.

This tea is fruity without becoming candy-like, sweet-tasting without becoming heavy, and substantial enough to satisfy a black-tea drinker.

Tasting Notes

  • Top: Ripe peach • Juicy apricot
  • Mid: Stone fruit • Gentle tropical sweetness
  • Finish: Clean • Lightly brisk • Lingering fruit
  • Body: Medium

Why You’ll Love It

Choose Peach Apricot if you enjoy recognizable fruit flavors and want an approachable flavored black tea that still tastes like tea. Peach provides the softer, sweeter side of the cup, while apricot adds brightness. The black tea underneath contributes body and mild astringency, keeping the fruit from becoming overly rich. It is also one of those useful teas that works in more than one season. Hot, it feels soft and comforting; iced, the stone-fruit character becomes bright and refreshing.

If you're new to Churchill's and aren't sure where to begin with flavored black tea, Peach Apricot is an accessible choice. If you're already an experienced tea drinker, pay attention to the balance between the fruit and the natural briskness of the tea base—that contrast is what makes the blend work.

Ingredients: Black tea, papaya, blackberry leaves, apricot, peach, calendula and marigold petals, natural flavors
Caffeine: Yes
Body: Medium

How to Brew

Use 1 heaping teaspoon with The Perfect Measure Spoon per 8 oz / 237 ml of water at an ideal brewing temperature of 212°F / 100°C.

Mild: 2–3 minutes
Medium: 4–5 minutes
Strong: 6–7 minutes

For your first cup, we recommend 3–4 minutes and no additions. This gives you a good starting point for tasting the relationship between ripe fruit and the brisk black-tea base.

Because the blend contains pieces of fruit, blackberry leaves, and flower petals in addition to tea leaves, gently mix the loose tea before measuring. This helps distribute the ingredients more evenly from cup to cup.

For iced tea, brew it somewhat stronger before pouring over ice. Taste before adding sugar—the peach, apricot, papaya, and natural flavors already create considerable perceived sweetness.

Perfect For

Peach Apricot is an easy choice for afternoon tea, warm-weather iced tea, brunch, fruit lovers, or customers making the transition from sweetened beverages toward loose-leaf tea. Pair it with scones, peach cobbler, apricot pastries, almond cookies, vanilla cake, shortbread, fresh berries, or mild cheeses.

For a simple tasting comparison, pair it with something relatively neutral such as shortbread. This allows you to pay attention to where peach ends, apricot begins, and the black tea reappears on the finish.

Peach and Apricot Are Similar—But Not the Same

Peach and apricot are close botanical relatives, which helps explain why their flavors feel so natural together. But tasting them side by side reveals useful differences. Peach tends to read as softer, rounder, and juicier. Apricot is often more concentrated, tangy, and aromatic.

In this blend, peach supplies much of the lush stone-fruit impression, while apricot gives that sweetness a brighter edge. The result has more dimension than peach alone. This is also a good example of how to become more precise when tasting flavored tea. Rather than stopping at “this tastes fruity,” ask yourself:

Does the fruit seem soft or tart? Fresh or cooked? Bright or deep? Does it appear immediately, or linger after the tea is swallowed? There are no required answers. The goal is simply to begin noticing more.

Why Black Tea Works So Well With Stone Fruit

A good flavored tea isn't simply a neutral base carrying added flavor. The character of the tea underneath matters. Black tea naturally brings body, tannin, and mild astringency. Peach and apricot move in the opposite direction, contributing aromatic sweetness and ripe fruit. That contrast creates balance.

Take away the black tea and the fruit could feel too soft. Take away the fruit and the tea would become considerably brisker. Together, the progression becomes: Juicy fruit → rounded sweetness → black-tea structure → clean finish. That's why Peach Apricot can satisfy someone looking for a flavorful tea without losing the experience of drinking black tea.

What Does “Orange Pekoe” Mean?

Peach Apricot uses OP — Orange Pekoe grade tea. Despite the name—and despite this tea containing plenty of fruit—Orange Pekoe does not mean orange-flavored tea. It's a traditional grading term associated with the size and style of orthodox manufactured black-tea leaves. The word “orange” in Orange Pekoe isn't telling you that orange has been added, and “pekoe” isn't a flavor either. This distinction is worth learning because you'll see OP and related abbreviations throughout the world of traditional black tea.

Compare the leafy appearance of an orthodox OP tea with the tiny particles of a CTC breakfast tea, and the difference becomes much easier to understand. Leaf grades tell you something about how the tea looks and was manufactured; they don't tell you what flavor has been added.

Hot vs. Iced: Taste the Same Tea Two Ways

Peach Apricot is particularly useful for discovering how temperature changes our perception of flavor.

  • Served hot, the black tea is more noticeable. The fruit feels round and aromatic, with peach providing softness and apricot adding brightness.
  • Served iced, the balance shifts toward fruit. Peach and apricot become more refreshing, while the briskness of the black tea creates a clean finish.

If you usually sweeten iced tea, taste this one first. You may discover that its fruit-forward aroma gives you more perceived sweetness than you expected without adding much—or any—sugar.
