Lemon Drops Black Tea (loose leaves)

Lemon Drops Black Tea

Description:

A bright, creamy lemon black tea with lively citrus, soft sweetness, and a smooth finish—an award-winning Churchill’s favorite that is equally delicious hot or iced.

The Experience

Lemon Drops Black Tea takes the familiar idea of tea with lemon and transforms it into something richer, smoother, and more indulgent.

The blend begins with Ceylon black tea, providing the depth and structure of a traditional black tea. Lemon brings a fresh citrus brightness, while lemon verbena and lemon peel build layers of aromatic citrus character. What makes Lemon Drops particularly distinctive, however, is its softer, almost creamy lemon quality.

Instead of tasting sharply acidic or aggressively tart, the cup is bright yet rounded. Think less of squeezing a wedge of lemon into ordinary black tea and more of the fragrant sweetness of lemon cream, lemon cake, or a delicate lemon confection.

That balance has made Lemon Drops a longtime Churchill’s favorite—and earned the tea recognition at the 2017 Global Tea Championship.

Tasting Notes

  • Top: Fresh lemon • Bright citrus
  • Mid: Creamy lemon • Smooth Ceylon black tea
  • Finish: Soft • Citrusy • Lingering
  • Body: Full

Why You’ll Love It

Lemon Drops is an exceptionally approachable flavored black tea. It has enough citrus to taste distinctly lemony, but its softer, creamier character keeps the tea from becoming overly sharp.

It's also remarkably versatile. Served hot, the aroma of lemon rises beautifully from the cup, and the black-tea foundation becomes more noticeable. Over ice, the citrus becomes crisp and refreshing, making Lemon Drops an easy choice for year-round drinking. For customers who think they already know what “lemon tea” tastes like, Lemon Drops is worth another look.

How to Brew

Use approximately 1 heaping teaspoon per 8 oz of water at 212°F / 100°C. Begin around 2 -3 minutes and adjust according to your preferred strength.

We recommend trying Lemon Drops straight first. The blend already has enough richness that it doesn't require milk, while a little sweetener can emphasize its dessert-like lemon character. For iced tea, brew it slightly stronger and pour over ice. Garnish with fresh lemon if you'd like even more citrus brightness.

Perfect For

Lemon Drops is equally at home at breakfast, afternoon tea, brunch, summer gatherings, or whenever you want something bright enough to refresh but substantial enough to satisfy. Pair it with lemon bars, shortbread, scones, pound cake, madeleines, vanilla cake, berry desserts, or buttery pastries.

More Than Black Tea with Lemon

Adding lemon to black tea is one of the simplest traditions in tea drinking. But Lemon Drops approaches the pairing differently. Rather than asking you to add lemon after brewing, the citrus character is built directly into the blend. Lemon peel contributes familiar citrus character, while lemon verbena brings a beautifully fragrant lemon-like aroma of its own.

Interestingly, lemon verbena isn't actually a type of lemon. It's an aromatic plant whose leaves naturally produce an intensely fresh, lemony fragrance. Pairing it with actual lemon peel creates more dimension than relying on a single citrus ingredient.

Beneath all of that is Ceylon black tea, providing enough body and structure to prevent the blend from becoming simply a flavored citrus drink. The result is unmistakably lemon—but layered lemon rather than one-note lemon.

An Award-Winning Cup

Lemon Drops has another distinction within the Churchill’s collection: it was recognized at the 2017 Global Tea Championship at the World Tea Expo.

Awards aren't what ultimately determine whether a tea earns a permanent place in someone's cupboard. That decision happens one cup at a time. But recognition can tell you something useful: the combination of tea, aroma, flavor, and balance stood out when evaluated alongside other teas in its category.

Years later, Lemon Drops continues to earn its place not simply because of an award, but because customers continue returning to its distinctive combination of bright citrus and creamy smoothness.

Hot or Iced?

Lemon Drops deserves to be tried both ways.

  • Served hot, the lemon aroma rises immediately with the steam, while the Ceylon black tea provides warmth, body, and depth. The creamier side of the blend becomes particularly noticeable.
  • Served iced, the personality shifts. Citrus moves forward, the finish becomes crisp, and the tea turns into a refreshing alternative to sweetened bottled iced teas.

For gatherings, brew a pitcher and offer lemon slices on the side. The tea has enough personality to stand on its own, while guests can adjust the citrus and sweetness to their own taste.

This is a great standard tea flavor if you’re just getting started with teas

This is a great standard tea flavor if you’re just getting started with teas. I don’t necessarily drink this one on its own, instead I blend it with mu customized amounts of their blueberry burst black tea and lavender. My personal blend is my goto summer iced tea sweetened with my friend’s honey from their bees, it just makes the hot days a little cooler for me! 💗😎🌞

I am a baker and I used this tea to make a new creation pie. I sold out of it, not once but twice. I am buying it in bulk. This tea is the perfect balance.

Had this tea at the History Museum in South Bend Indiana. It is delicious. It tastes more like vanilla to me than lemons.
