(Previously Lady Grey Decaffeinated Black Tea) A softer, fruitier interpretation of Earl Grey, pairing decaffeinated black tea with fragrant bergamot and real orange zest for a bright citrus cup with significantly less caffeine.
The Experience
Lady of the Earl Decaffeinated Black Tea takes the familiar bergamot character of Earl Grey and gives it an extra burst of sweet, sunny citrus.
The blend combines decaffeinated black tea, oil of bergamot, and orange zest. Bergamot provides the distinctive fragrant citrus character associated with Earl Grey, while real orange zest brings a sweeter, juicier citrus dimension that makes this blend particularly approachable.
The result is bright, aromatic, smooth, and citrus-forward, with a medium body and enough black-tea structure to keep the orange and bergamot beautifully balanced. Previously known as Lady Grey Decaffeinated Black Tea, this is the same style customers have enjoyed under a new Churchill’s name.

Tea & Ingredients
Tea Type: Decaffeinated Flavored Black Tea
Former Name: Lady Grey Decaffeinated Black Tea
Flavor Profile: Orange • Bergamot • Bright Citrus
Ingredients: Decaffeinated black tea, oil of bergamot, orange zest
Caffeine: Decaffeinated*
Body: Medium
*Decaffeinated tea is not necessarily completely caffeine-free; small residual amounts of caffeine may remain after processing.
How to Brew
Use approximately 1 heaping teaspoon per 8 oz / 237 ml of water at 212°F / 100°C.
Start with a 3–4 minute steep and adjust to taste. A moderate infusion helps preserve the bright orange and bergamot aromatics while allowing the black-tea base to remain smooth.
We especially recommend trying your first cup straight. For iced tea, brew slightly stronger before pouring over ice—the combination of orange and bergamot becomes particularly refreshing served cold.
Perfect For
Lady of the Earl Decaf is an excellent choice for afternoon tea, evening reading, warm-weather iced tea, or Earl Grey drinkers looking to reduce caffeine later in the day. Pair it with scones, shortbread, lemon cake, orange cake, madeleines, vanilla pastries, dark chocolate, or delicate tea sandwiches.
Bergamot vs. Orange
Bergamot and orange are both citrus fruits, but they don't contribute the same flavor.
-
Bergamot is highly aromatic, floral, and slightly bitter—the distinctive fragrance that makes Earl Grey recognizable.
-
Orange zest is sweeter and more familiar, contributing a brighter fruit character.
Putting the two together changes the balance of the cup:
-
Bergamot → fragrant and sophisticated
-
Orange → bright and juicy
- Black tea → structure and depth
That's what distinguishes Lady of the Earl from a classic Earl Grey. It doesn't replace the bergamot—it builds another layer of citrus around it.
Lady of the Earl vs. Earl Grey Classic
If you're deciding between the two, think about which side of Earl Grey you enjoy most.
-
Lady of the Earl Decaffeinated - Orange • Bergamot • Bright citrus
→ Best for: customers who enjoy Earl Grey but prefer it brighter, fruitier, and more orange-forward
-
Earl Grey Classic Decaffeinated - Bergamot • Black tea • Classic citrus
→ Best for: customers who want bergamot itself to remain the defining flavor
Lady of the Earl is the more approachable choice for someone who finds traditional Earl Grey a little too perfumed or bergamot-forward.
Decaf Doesn't Mean Caffeine-Free
Lady of the Earl Decaf begins with genuine black tea from the Camellia sinensis plant, which naturally contains caffeine. Decaffeination removes most of the caffeine, but trace amounts may remain. Choose this tea when you want significantly less caffeine while retaining the experience of flavored black tea. For complete caffeine avoidance, a naturally caffeine-free herbal or rooibos blend would be a better choice.
