English Breakfast Classic Black Tea (loose leaves)

English Breakfast Classic Black Tea

Description:

A bold, full-bodied blend of Assam, Ceylon, and Kenyan black teas with light astringency and a subtle stone-fruit finish—the quintessential traditional breakfast cup.

The Experience

English Breakfast Classic Black Tea is built around one idea: a satisfying cup of black tea with enough strength and structure to begin the day.

This purist blend brings together orthodox black teas from three of the world's important tea-growing regions—Assam in India, Ceylon in Sri Lanka, and Kenya. Each origin contributes to the balance of the finished cup, creating greater depth than any one component alone.

The tea brews bold and full-bodied, with the substantial character expected of a traditional English Breakfast. A light astringency provides briskness and structure without overwhelming the palate, while a subtle stone-fruit note emerges toward the finish, giving the blend an unexpected touch of natural complexity.

Its FP — Flowery Pekoe grade and traditional orthodox manufacture preserve recognizable leafy character while delivering the strength expected from a breakfast tea. There are no added flavors, fruits, or spices. Just black tea, carefully blended for body, balance, and a proper morning cup.

How Tea Became an English Tradition

Today, tea and Britain seem almost inseparable—but tea was already part of established Asian cultures and trade networks long before it became a British institution.

Tea reached England in the 17th century, initially as an expensive imported novelty. Early supplies came through European trading networks, including the Dutch, before Britain's own commercial involvement in the tea trade expanded.

Over time, tea moved from fashionable luxury to an extraordinary part of everyday British life. It became connected to its own rituals, vessels, meals, and social customs—from the familiar Brown Betty teapot to afternoon tea and the strong morning cup that eventually became associated with English Breakfast.

One of the most famous British tea traditions developed during the 19th century. Anna Russell, Duchess of Bedford, is commonly associated with popularizing afternoon tea after taking tea and light refreshments between the established meals of the day. What began as a private solution to a long afternoon gradually became a fashionable social occasion.

Breakfast tea followed a different philosophy. This was tea intended to have strength—substantial enough for the morning table and particularly well suited to milk.

Today's English Breakfast blends can vary considerably from one tea merchant to another. Churchill's version combines three origins rather than allowing one to dominate: Assam. Ceylon. Kenya. Three tea-growing traditions brought together to create the bold, balanced cup that generations of tea drinkers have come to recognize as English Breakfast.

I love coming to the English Breakfast tea

I love coming to the English Breakfast tea. I have it every morning and sometimes a 2nd cup. I’ve tried other, cheaper, teas but find Churchill’s to have the best. I always feel I’m taking care of myself when I drink their tea.
