A vibrant decaffeinated black tea with the deep, juicy aroma of blackcurrant, balanced by smooth tea character and a softly fruity finish—full of flavor without the usual caffeine.
The Experience
Blackcurrant Berry Decaffeinated Black Tea is designed for tea drinkers who want a genuinely flavorful fruit black tea while keeping caffeine to a minimum.
The cup leads with an intense blackcurrant—or cassis—aroma, distinctive for its combination of dark berry sweetness and subtle tartness. Decaffeinated black tea provides a medium-bodied foundation, while blackberry leaves and cornflower petals add botanical interest to the blend.
Unlike lighter berry profiles such as strawberry or raspberry, blackcurrant has a deeper, richer fruit character that remains expressive against black tea. The result is aromatic and fruit-forward without losing the satisfying structure of a traditional cup of tea. Enjoy it hot in the afternoon or evening, or serve it iced for an especially refreshing berry tea.

How to Brew
Use 1 heaping teaspoon with The Perfect Measure Spoon per 8 oz / 237 ml of water at 212°F / 100°C.
Mild: 2–3 minutes
Medium: 4–5 minutes
Strong: 6–7 minutes
For your first cup, try approximately 3–4 minutes to balance the blackcurrant aroma with the underlying tea.
For iced tea, brew a little stronger before pouring over ice. Blackcurrant's naturally dark, tangy fruit profile makes this blend particularly refreshing cold.
Perfect For
Blackcurrant Berry Decaf is an excellent choice for afternoon and evening tea, berry lovers reducing caffeine, iced tea, or anyone who wants fruit flavor without moving entirely into herbal tea. Pair it with dark chocolate, cheesecake, scones, shortbread, vanilla cake, berry desserts, or almond pastries.
What Is Blackcurrant—or Cassis?
Blackcurrant and cassis refer to the same fruit, Ribes nigrum. Blackcurrant is particularly associated with European food and beverage traditions, where its intensely aromatic, sweet-tart character is immediately recognizable. The French name cassis is also commonly used when describing the fruit and its flavor.
From a tea-blending perspective, blackcurrant works especially well with black tea because it has enough aromatic intensity to remain distinct against the deeper character of the tea. Think: Dark berry → sweet-tart cassis → black tea → lingering fruit. If raspberry feels bright and playful, blackcurrant tends to feel deeper, darker, and more concentrated.
How Is This Tea Decaffeinated?
The black tea used in this blend is decaffeinated using a CO₂ process. Under controlled pressure and temperature, carbon dioxide is used during processing to extract caffeine from the tea. One reason this method is valued for quality tea is its ability to remove most of the caffeine while preserving much of the underlying character of the leaf.
Decaffeination will inevitably alter tea somewhat—which is why the quality of the tea going into the process matters. High-grown black tea was selected because it retained satisfying tea character particularly well after CO₂ decaffeination.
Is Decaf the Same as Caffeine-Free?
Not quite. Decaffeinated tea begins as caffeinated tea and undergoes processing to remove most of its caffeine. Trace amounts can remain.
A naturally caffeine-free herbal or rooibos blend, on the other hand, does not begin with Camellia sinensis tea leaves and therefore does not naturally contain the caffeine associated with traditional tea.
So if you're simply trying to reduce caffeine, Blackcurrant Berry Decaf is an excellent option. If you need to avoid caffeine completely, one of our naturally caffeine-free herbal or rooibos blends would be the more appropriate choice.
