Stainless Steel Matcha Sifter

A small step that makes a noticeable difference in your matcha.

This stainless steel matcha sifter helps break apart fine clumps of matcha powder before whisking, creating a finer, more even layer of matcha in your bowl. The result is matcha that incorporates more easily with water and whisks into a smoother, more consistent suspension.

Matcha is an exceptionally fine powder and naturally tends to form small clumps during storage. Rather than trying to break them apart with your chasen, sift your matcha first for an easier and more refined preparation.

Why Sift Matcha?

Because sifting helps:

• Break apart naturally occurring clumps in fine matcha powder
• Distribute matcha evenly across the bottom of your bowl
• Make the powder easier to incorporate with water
• Reduce stubborn clumps during whisking
• Create a smoother, more consistent bowl of matcha

It is a simple preparation step especially worth adding when enjoying high-quality matcha with water alone.

How to Use

• Measure your desired amount of matcha into the sifter positioned over your chawan (matcha bowl).
• Gently press or move the matcha through the fine mesh with a matcha spoon or chashaku. Once sifted, add water at the appropriate temperature and whisk briskly with a bamboo chasen until the matcha is evenly suspended and a fine layer of foam develops.
• The sifter can also be used when preparing matcha for hot or iced lattes.

Care

Hand wash the stainless steel sifter after use and dry it thoroughly before storing. Avoid allowing moisture to remain in the fine mesh. For easiest cleaning, rinse away any remaining matcha soon after use rather than allowing the powder to dry in the mesh.
