Bean & Barley

Bean & Barley was conceived as a neighborhood gathering spot serving O’Bryonville and the surrounding communities of East Walnut Hills, Evanston, and Hyde Park. Their space is warm, inviting, spacious, and comfortable, with two levels of indoor seating, a rooftop patio, a side patio, and an outdoor beer garden.

Bean & Barley seeks to celebrate the craftsmanship of local coffee roasters, brewers, bakers, and artists. We feature goods and products from Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.

The Madison Place Coffee

Coffee shops are special places. They are where people gather, ideas are hatched, and new friendships begin. This was our inspiration for bringing The Madison Place to our Cincinnati neighborhood. We are committed to offering our neighborhood a valuable space to connect, strengthen friendships, and grow into a stronger community.

Our food is simple and satisfying: a full coffee bar menu, teas and other non-coffee drinks; with breakfast and lunch offerings, along with a selection of locally made pastries

Craft Barbecue in the heart of Cincinnati

Bee's Barbecue

Born and raised just down the street from the Madisonville location, Brendan "Bee" Hague developed a love for food and cooking from his parents.

His father, a firm believer in sustainability and local sourcing, instilled these values in Brendan through community gardens he built throughout Madisonville. Brendan's mother, a talented artist, shared her love for cooking, making every dish that emerged from the oven feel like love.

Harriet Beecher Stowe House

This house bears witness to generations joining their voices for truth in the nation’s struggle toward freedom and humanity for all. Visitors will encounter the history 2950 Gilbert Avenue witnessed in two different time periods 100 years apart:

  • 1840 when abolitionist author Harriet Beecher Stowe lived in Cincinnati as a young teacher and mother preparing to write the blockbuster antislavery novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin
  • 1940 when African-American proprietor Irene Bacon managed the house as the Edgemont Inn–a boarding house and tavern listed in the Green Book.
