Hojicha is a classic style of Japanese green tea made by roasting bancha or sencha. Churchill's Hojicha is roasted bancha whole tea leaves and stems from the autumn and winter harvests. The roasting process diminishes the tannin and caffeine content of the leaves, suppresses astringency and bitterness, and draws out the fragrance and a nutty flavor. The tea of choice for children in Japan due to the diminished caffeine level.
